Separating helpdesk ticket costs from AI resolution usage

How much does Gorgias cost?

When we checked Gorgias's pricing page, Starter was $10 a month for Helpdesk, or $40 with AI Agent added, with 50 monthly tickets and 30 automated interactions in the AI option. Starter was monthly-only. Larger plans can show monthly equivalents for annual billing. Official pricing

The important distinction is between Helpdesk, which organizes customer requests, and AI Agent, which can resolve some conversations. Your total depends on the combination you choose and how much you use it.

This guide is based on official information checked on September 6, 2026, rather than a paid-account billing test. Need the product overview first? Read Zipchat vs. Gorgias.

Confirm the trial included in your offer

Gorgias offers a free trial, but its official sources give different durations: the account-creation guide says 30 days, while its small-business guide lists seven. During the demo, ask which duration and AI features apply to your account, and what the price will be afterward. Our referral link leads to a demo request. What should your quote include?

The pricing page lets you change the billing cycle and AI Agent selection. Compare quotes with the same settings: a Helpdesk-only price isn't equivalent to one that includes AI.

The four parts of a Gorgias quote to check
CostWhat to look for
HelpdeskBase price, included tickets and extra-ticket charges
AI AgentAdditional price, included automated interactions and excess usage
Billing cycleMonthly payment or annual commitment; actual upfront total
Optional channelsAny separate voice and SMS fees you need

Save these details with your quote. A low monthly equivalent can still mean a larger payment upfront.

What counts as a ticket—and where does AI fit?

Imagine a customer asking where an order is. The conversation is a support ticket; three messages inside it aren't automatically three separate tickets. Under the current documentation, a replied-to Helpdesk ticket can count toward ticket usage, and an AI Agent resolution can also incur an automation fee. Passing the conversation to a person is treated differently. Billing definitions

Don't assume an AI resolution removes the Helpdesk charge. Keep ticket usage and automated outcomes as separate lines in your estimate. Equally, don't substitute visitors, orders or individual messages for the platform's billing categories.

If you're unsure how a case will count, bring a real example—with personal details removed—to a demo. Ask what happens when AI answers the first question but a person handles a later request.

Why an older customer's bill may look different

Gorgias documents legacy pricing for eligible accounts created before May 28, 2025, with further conditions around AI Agent and Shopping Assistant upgrades. Under that model, a ticket may count toward Helpdesk or automation usage rather than both. Legacy pricing conditions

If you already use Gorgias, check which model applies to your account. If you're new, don't use a long-standing merchant's invoice as your expected bill. When considering an upgrade, ask whether it changes the billing rules as well as the features.

Estimate a normal month and a busy month

Use support records from a typical month and a busier period, such as a holiday sale. A shipping delay can generate many questions even without a large increase in orders.

Example budgeting workflow, not a measured customer result
  1. Count: inquiries in a normal month and a busy month.
  2. Separate: routine questions from requests needing a person.
  3. Estimate: base price, extra usage and optional channels.
  4. Review: replace estimates with actual trial usage.

List base fees, excess tickets, excess automated interactions, channel add-ons and taxes separately. For now, treat the share of questions AI could resolve as an assumption. You can refine it once you've seen it handle your store's questions.

Try a second estimate with higher usage. This shows whether a small rise in demand changes which plan makes sense.

Remember the work your team still does

Someone will need to update information, review unusual requests and correct mistakes. Add that time to your estimate, especially if you're comparing the total cost with your current setup.

For a demo, bring three cases: a delivery question, a return with an exception, and a request for a person. Ask to see both the customer conversation and its usage record. That connects the feature list to what your team will do—and what you'll pay.

Before choosing a tier, write down your monthly ticket volume, likely AI use and required channels. If you haven't settled on a tool, our Shopify chatbot comparison helps you decide which options to explore.
