Verdict: a candidate for teams that can own the knowledge

Tidio's Lyro is worth evaluating when you want AI to answer store questions while your team retains a defined role in exceptions. The purchase makes more sense when someone can maintain the information it uses and review the conversations it passes to people.

It needs closer scrutiny if the main requirement is a custom transaction across external systems. A useful answer from a knowledge base and a correctly authorized change to an order are different jobs. Establish which one you need before approving a subscription.

This review uses official documentation checked on September 6, 2026. We have not installed Lyro on a live store or measured accuracy, savings or revenue. The strengths, tradeoffs and pilot examples are editorial judgments. We do not assign a star rating or treat vendor testimonials as independently verified outcomes.

What you are buying: Lyro, human support and Flows

Tidio sells Lyro AI Agent, Customer Service and Flows separately or in bundles. A Tidio subscription and a recurring AI allowance are not interchangeable. Official pricing and product FAQ

For a buyer, the distinction affects ownership and cost. A predefined branch can collect a wholesale inquiry consistently; an AI conversation can address a less predictable product question; a person can decide a disputed exception. Decide which component owns each stage.

A shopper might start with a product question and later ask to cancel an order. Follow the entire conversation in your acceptance test. Avoid paying for overlapping functionality simply because several product names appear in the same package.

Strengths to evaluate: knowledge and Shopify recommendations

Lyro supports website content, manual Q&A and file imports. Shopify product recommendations have their own integration and subscription requirements. Knowledge documentationShopify recommendations

The potential benefit is a manageable route from approved information to customer answers. Pick a product with variants and a policy with an exception. Check whether the imported knowledge includes the detail needed to answer both correctly.

Source variety also creates maintenance work. Give important topics an owner and remove superseded material. Importing a PDF is not proof that its contents are current, nor that the assistant will apply the right condition.

For recommendations, test a customer who needs a particular material, size or compatibility. A relevant-looking product that violates that constraint is a failed recommendation. We have not measured Lyro's recommendation quality.

Tradeoffs: external actions and handoff need separate review

Lyro Actions retrieve or send data through external APIs. Tidio describes this as work for advanced users or developers and says it does not validate or roll back integrations. Actions documentation

If you need an address change or another write operation, ask who implements it, checks identity, handles failures and restores an incorrect change. Include that work before treating the feature as ready to deploy.

Handoff is a separate workstream. Lyro documents configurable handoff behavior. Test the destination and context a person receives, including when staff are unavailable. Lyro configuration

Have a teammate complete a case using the information delivered to them. A polished message saying help is coming does not establish that a request reached an accountable owner. Record missing context and duplicated questions as operating costs.

Pricing: count threads, not messages or successful outcomes

The limit documentation describes 50 free AI conversations as a non-renewing allocation, alongside renewable paid allowances. It counts a new thread when Lyro first responds; a message after 15 minutes of inactivity starts another thread. Lyro quota rules

In a hypothetical session, several quick exchanges might consume one AI conversation, while a later return consumes another. Neither usage count tells you whether the customer's issue was resolved.

Prepare separate estimates for staff work, Lyro usage and Flows reach. Confirm the billing period, renewal date, quota exhaustion behavior and features in the actual offer. We do not present an uncertain monthly equivalent as a checkout price.

Add maintenance and follow-up time. A lower software charge can coexist with more manual review. For reply-based budgeting on another product, see Zipchat versus Tidio.

Language support is a workflow requirement

Lyro lists Japanese among its supported languages and allows a project to restrict the languages it uses. This configuration is independent of widget translations. Multilanguage documentation

Test the policy applicable to the market as well as the language of the answer. A fluent response can still use the wrong return window or shipping condition. Include a conversation that changes language and one that requests a person.

Before adding a market, decide who handles escalations and approves source changes. Those responsibilities remain part of the operating model even when the AI can generate an answer in that language.

A purchase checklist with a clear decision

  1. Choose one queue and define the expected answer or next action.
  2. Confirm the knowledge, integration and paid allowance required.
  3. Test a known fact, missing context, an exception and a handoff.
  4. Review external actions separately from chat response quality.
  5. Record wrong answers, repeated contacts and maintenance effort.
  6. Save the commercial offer and a continue-or-stop decision date.

Choose Lyro when its documented scope and your pilot fit that brief. Reconsider the scope when nobody can maintain knowledge or own handoffs. If another tool covers the job, compare the added value before adopting a second platform.

Our four-tool support comparison helps with shortlisting; the Shopify AI support pilot guide provides an operating process.

Frequently asked questions

Does the free AI allowance renew every month?

The documented introductory Lyro allowance is non-renewing. Check your actual offer before treating any included AI usage as a recurring monthly benefit. The quota documentation linked above explains the distinction.

Does Shopify integration make every custom action ready to use?

No. Product recommendations and an external API action have different requirements. Demonstrate the exact operation you need, with the intended permissions and failure behavior, before committing.

Is this a hands-on review?

No. It is a source-based buyer review. The tests are proposed evaluation steps, and the article does not claim a measured success rate or customer outcome.

Once you know what you need to check, review the current features and conditions on the official site.
