Choose the workflow before the chatbot
Consider Tidio when you want to design the balance between live support, AI, and predefined flows. Consider Zipchat for a focused evaluation of AI-led ecommerce conversations. These are useful starting points for a trial, not evidence that either product outperforms the other.
We checked official public sources on September 5, 2026. This is a buying guide, not a hands-on benchmark. The scenarios below are editorial examples.

The comparison that affects your plan
| Question | Zipchat | Tidio |
|---|---|---|
| Published offering | AI sales and support | Live chat, Lyro AI, and Flows |
| What to model | A selected AI conversation | Which work goes to people, Lyro, or Flows |
| Budget input | AI replies | Human conversations, Lyro conversations, Flows visitors |
| Pilot risk to examine | Incomplete context at handoff | Conflicting paths between automation and staff |
Offering details come from Zipchat's app listing and Tidio's product FAQ. The workflow and risk rows are our evaluation suggestions, not documented defects.
When a scripted path is useful
Suppose a store needs visitors to choose between a sizing question, a wholesale inquiry, and a delivery update. A predefined path can be easier to review when the business wants the same question asked every time. Tidio distinguishes Flows from its Lyro AI product. Tidio FAQ
For this scenario, test whether the selected path still makes sense when a shopper changes the subject. Count dead ends and repeated questions. A well-designed path should make the next action clear; a larger number of branches does not automatically improve service.
For a more open product-selection conversation, use the same customer brief in a Zipchat trial. Ask an ambiguous question, revise the budget, and introduce an unavailable variant. Judge whether the final recommendation respects those constraints. This is a test design, not a claim about the outcome.
Avoid comparing different usage units
Tidio's pricing separates staff conversations, Lyro conversations, and visitors reached by Flows. Its displayed starter AI allocation is marked one-off; do not assume it renews monthly. Tidio pricing
Prepare a worksheet with those categories before selecting a bundle. For Zipchat, use our reply-based pricing guide. A request that triggers a flow, receives AI replies, and needs a person should be discussed explicitly with the provider when estimating billing.
Include routine content maintenance and seasonal changes in the budget. We have not verified a custom Tidio quote or tested billing boundaries, so this comparison does not name a cheapest plan.

Test the transition to a person
An automation pilot is incomplete until a staff member can pick up the conversation. Test a request made while the team is offline, a customer who explicitly asks for a person, and a conversation reopened the following day.
Evaluate the transcript, notification, ownership, and expected response time. Decide which tool is responsible for each stage before enabling overlapping widgets or automations. Also inspect the mobile storefront: a working desktop demonstration does not establish that the customer can comfortably use the chat on a small screen.
A practical purchase decision

- Separate fixed workflows from open-ended questions.
- Give both trials the same product and policy information.
- Record wrong answers, dead ends, handoffs, and staff review time.
- Confirm included usage, replenishment, overages, and cancellation.
- Expand only after the target journey passes your own acceptance criteria.
