When product photos don't show enough

How big does the mug feel in your hand? Is the lid easy to open? Product photos can show the design, but a person using it can help shoppers picture the everyday experience.

Reviewers.com is a Shopify app for collecting video reviews through product gifting. You provide products, people try them and record their opinions, and AI checks the submitted videos for quality. It's worth considering when you need footage of people using your products.

The eligibility detail comes first: the official overview says the service is for US-based Shopify brands. This article uses that same scope. Shipping to the US alone doesn't establish that a business based elsewhere qualifies. Official eligibility overview

This review is based on official documentation, not a campaign we've run ourselves. The travel mug and budget below are fictional planning examples.

How do you go from a product to a video review?

A campaign is a round of product gifting. You offer 5 or 10 items, eligible reviewers order through your Shopify store, and your team ships the products. Reviewers.com requires Shopify Checkout. How the service works

Four stages of a video review campaign
  1. Prepare: choose a product, quantity, and useful demonstration.
  2. Ship: fulfill the participating reviewers' orders.
  3. Collect: people try the product and film their own opinions.
  4. Use: review the footage for your product page or marketing.

AI checks elements such as product visibility, audio, and substance. Reviewers speak English and give honest feedback. You aren't buying a scripted endorsement or a production package with unlimited reshoots. Video quality and briefing rules

Your team still handles stock and fulfillment. These orders go through your normal Shopify workflow, so let the person shipping them know about the campaign. What happens after launch

What does Reviewers.com cost, including the samples?

The standard plan is $150 per month with one campaign included. Loox merchants have separate preferred pricing. These charges cover Reviewers.com; they don't include a Shopify or Loox subscription.

EligibilityMonthly fee and allowanceAdditional campaigns beyond available credits
Standard pricing$150; one campaign$150 each
Loox merchant pricing$100; one campaign$100 each

New merchants get a 30-day trial with one free campaign. A second campaign during the trial costs extra. Regular monthly credits don't roll over. To avoid the subscription charge, cancel or uninstall within 30 days; the first paid billing cycle starts on day 31. Trial and billing rules

Your brand also pays for the products and shipping. Suppose each mug costs you $12 and each shipment costs $6. Gifting five means $60 in products + $30 in shipping = $90. Add a standard paid month's $150 fee, and that one-campaign budget is $240. The first free campaign still leaves you with the $90 sample-and-shipping cost. Allow separately for tax, packaging, labor, and other app fees. Products and shipping are free to reviewers

Our referral link offers 10% off the subscription. We haven't confirmed how long that discount lasts or whether it combines with Loox merchant pricing. The table doesn't stack discounts; check the applied offer and subscription amount before approving a plan.

Reviewers.com vs. Loox: different jobs, connected workflows

Reviewers.com and Loox are related products, but they're now separate Shopify apps. You don't need a Loox subscription to use Reviewers.com. Loox's explanation

Choose according to the job you need done
QuestionReviewers.comLoox
Who provides the reviews?People participating in product-gifting campaignsPrimarily your store's customers, through review requests
What's the main job?Collect new video reviews of your productsCollect photo and video reviews and display them on your store
When might you choose it?You need videos showing a new product in useYou want useful customer reviews on product pages

Loox's collection and display features are described in its Shopify app listing. Our Loox review explains the basics.

If you use both apps, Reviewers.com reviews sync to Loox and follow your Loox auto-publishing settings. Other review apps may require a CSV import or additional work to attach the videos. Check the process for your current app before assuming it works the same way. Export and integration documentation

Plan your first campaign around one useful demonstration

Choose a product whose everyday use is hard to show in a still photo. That gives you a reason to collect footage and a place to use it. Here's a fictional plan for gifting five ceramic travel mugs.

A filled-in planning sheet for a first campaign
FieldExample
ProductA ceramic travel mug with a lid; reserve five samples plus stock for normal sales
Useful demonstrationSize in the hand, opening and closing the lid, and everyday use
Screening question“Do you regularly use a mug with a lid?”
First use for the footageA product-page demonstration; consider advertising after reviewing what arrives
Store responsibilitiesFulfillment checks stock and shipping; marketing reviews the footage and its presentation

The campaign flow supports screening questions and a short brief explaining what you'd like demonstrated. Have the product description and inventory ready first. Official campaign setup guide

For example, your brief could say:

Please show how the mug fits in your hand and how the lid opens and closes. Use it as you normally would, then share what worked well and anything you'd change. Please use your own words and give your honest opinion.

That gives the reviewer something useful to demonstrate while leaving the opinion to them. Don't request a five-star rating, prescribe “it never leaks,” or add performance claims your product information doesn't support.

Where can you use the videos?

The official help center describes usage rights that don't expire, including use on product pages, in ads, on social media, and in emails. Reviewers aren't required to post on their own social accounts, so don't budget for guaranteed exposure to their followers. Usage rights and social posting

Before publishing a video, check three things:

  • Accuracy: does it show the right product and describe its features accurately?
  • Editing: do captions or excerpts preserve what the reviewer actually meant?
  • Disclosure: can viewers tell the reviewer received the product for free?

FTC guidance covers free products as a connection that should be disclosed. Keep that connection clear when you shorten a video or reuse it elsewhere. A platform's quality check doesn't review every claim and disclosure in your finished ad or page. FTC disclosure guidance

Who should consider it—and who should look elsewhere?

Our assessment: Reviewers.com is a reasonable option for a US-based Shopify brand with a sample budget, reliable fulfillment, and a clear use for the videos. You prepare a product, audience criteria, and a brief instead of finding each reviewer individually.

It's less suitable if you need Japanese-language reviews for customers in Japan, or a commissioned ad with a fixed script, final cut, and delivery date. If your immediate task is organizing reviews from existing buyers, start with Loox's features and pricing.

Shopify App Store reviewers mention convenient video collection, while one describes needing time to edit the footage received. There were only nine reviews when we checked, so they offer individual perspectives rather than strong evidence of typical quality or results. Shopify App Store reviews

For your first campaign, record whether the footage explains the product, what work it takes to publish, and whether the total cost is sustainable. Those observations are more useful for planning the next round than assuming every video will increase sales.

Frequently asked questions

Can a company based outside the US use it if it ships there?

Shipping coverage alone doesn't answer that. The official eligibility is for US-based Shopify brands. A company based in Japan, or with operations in several countries, should confirm whether its business setup qualifies.

Does sending five samples guarantee five videos?

No. The help center acknowledges that some people don't submit a review after receiving their product. Keep gifted quantity and received-video quantity separate when setting your budget and advertising schedule. What to expect after launch

Does a seven-day campaign mean all videos arrive within seven days?

The seven-day window is for participants to claim the products. Receiving videos also depends on fulfillment, delivery, request timing, and submission. Leave room to receive and review the footage before committing it to a product launch or ad schedule. Campaign and review timeline

If your business meets the eligibility requirements and the budget works, start by choosing one product and one useful demonstration you'd like shoppers to see.
