Tidio vs Zendesk: Tidio suits a one- or two-person Shopify store; Zendesk is built around agent seats
If you run support alone or with one helper, Tidio is the easier tool to start with: it has a free plan, tiered plans with set allowances, and an AI agent (Lyro) you add on top. Zendesk makes more sense once you have several agents and want a documented way to refund or cancel Shopify orders from the ticket. The real difference is how each one counts what you pay for.
- Tidio: you choose a plan (Free, Starter, Growth and up) with set conversation allowances.
- Zendesk: you pay per agent seat each month, and its AI agent bills per automated resolution. There is no free plan on the pricing page, only a 14-day trial.
- On Shopify orders: Zendesk's help center spells out refunds and cancellations step by step. Tidio also lets agents cancel, refund and change shipping addresses from the inbox.
Everything here was checked on October 26, 2026 against both vendors' official pricing pages, their Shopify integration pages, Zendesk's messaging page and both Shopify App Store listings. For Tidio's plans in detail, see the Tidio pricing guide; for Lyro, the Lyro guide.

Sources: Tidio pricing and Zendesk pricing, both checked October 26, 2026. Tidio's figures here match our pricing guide, which treats them as monthly equivalents with annual billing. The page has a Monthly/Annually toggle, so confirm the cycle on screen before you buy.
How much do they cost? Allowances vs per-seat pricing
Tidio's tiers are easier to forecast; Zendesk's total grows with every agent you add.
Tidio
On the pricing page as of October 26, 2026: Free is $0 with 50 billable conversations and 10 seats, Starter is $24.17 (100 conversations), and Growth starts at $49.17 (250 conversations on the plan card). Plus starts at $300 plus usage, and Premium is quote-only. On Free, the first 50 Lyro conversations are free for the life of the account. The Tidio listing on the Shopify App Store shows a different plan lineup (Free, Customer Service $29, Flows $29, Lyro AI Chatbot $39), so if you subscribe through the app, check the amount on the checkout screen.
Zendesk
Zendesk Suite is priced per agent per month: Team is $55 billed annually or $69 billed monthly, and Professional is $115 or $149. Enterprise pricing is not published. The Zendesk listing on the Shopify App Store shows a different structure (Growth $89, Enterprise $150, billed annually). Because the two pages do not line up, build your budget from the official pricing page and confirm at checkout.
With two agents on Team, the seat cost is $55 x 2 = $110 a month on annual billing, or $69 x 2 = $138 monthly. AI resolutions are billed on top of that.
A fair way to compare
The units differ, so do not read the table as "cheaper" or "pricier." Start from your own numbers: for Tidio, pick the plan that covers your monthly conversations and add a Lyro allowance if you want it; for Zendesk, multiply seats by the per-seat price and add automated resolutions.
AI billing: Lyro allowances vs Zendesk's per-resolution charge
Both automate answers, but you count the cost differently.
- Lyro (Tidio): the first 50 conversations are free on the Free plan. The Lyro add-on starts at $32.50 a month for 50 conversations, with paid tiers from 50 to 1,000 conversations a month.
- Zendesk automated resolutions: $1.50 per resolution on a committed plan, $2.00 pay-as-you-go, across all Suite plans. Team includes 5 resolutions per seat per month and Professional includes 10.
Zendesk also sells Copilot, an assistant for agents, at $50 per seat per month billed annually, on Professional and above. That is separate from the AI that answers customers directly, so count it separately in a quote.
What Tidio charges beyond a paid Lyro allowance is not listed on its pricing page, so if you expect to go past 1,000 conversations a month, ask Tidio for the terms.
Shopify: what you can do from the inbox
For order actions, Zendesk's documentation is the more detailed of the two; Tidio covers the common actions too.
Zendesk
Zendesk's Shopify integration article (checked October 26, 2026) describes:
- An order sidebar with the summary, history, line items and tracking numbers, matched by customer email or phone number.
- Refunds on fulfilled, partially fulfilled and unfulfilled orders, full or partial, with the option to restock items and refund shipping.
- Cancellations for unfulfilled orders only.
- Availability on all Suite plans; standalone Support plans also need Chat.
The Zendesk listing on the Shopify App Store shows a 3.2 rating from 95 reviews, and some reviewers describe setup as difficult.
Tidio
Tidio's Shopify integration page (checked October 26, 2026) lists cart and order history in the conversation, tickets created with Shopify data, more than 40 templates, and agent actions to cancel an order, refund it or change a shipping address from the inbox. Lyro can share stock levels, order status and discount codes. If order status is your main use case, our guide to Lyro and order status walks through the setup.
Free plan vs free trial
Tidio lets you keep running real conversations for free; Zendesk gives you 14 days to decide.
Tidio's 7-day trial needs no card and drops you to the Free plan afterward unless you pick a paid plan. Zendesk offers a 14-day trial at Suite Professional level, and we did not find a free plan. If you try Zendesk, plan the two weeks around what you need to see: a refund, a cancellation and a few automated resolutions.
Which one should you choose?
| Your situation | Try first | Why |
|---|---|---|
| A few dozen chats a month, one or two people | Tidio | Free plan to start; costs stay inside a plan allowance |
| You want AI costs in fixed allowances | Tidio | Lyro is sold in blocks of conversations, not per resolution |
| Several agents who need shared history and permissions | Zendesk | Per-seat pricing, and Shopify refunds and cancellations are documented |
| LINE or voice channels in the same inbox | Zendesk | Its messaging page lists LINE and voice (check plan-by-plan availability with Zendesk) |
If Tidio fits, you can start on the free plan and run real customer questions through it.
