Concept illustration comparing AI shopping help, a team helpdesk and human chat for one support question

Start with the job you want to change

Consider Zipchat for AI shopping assistance, Gorgias for team-based ecommerce support, and Shopify Inbox for straightforward live chat. These are starting points based on published product capabilities, not the results of a controlled performance test. We have not installed the three products in identical merchant accounts.

Before leaving Tidio, identify the actual problem. Is the AI allowance too small? Do agents struggle to share work? Are you paying for automation you no longer use? Each question leads to a different comparison. A smaller Tidio configuration may solve the problem without migration.

The right choice depends on the work being done, not just message volume. A short product question and a return requiring investigation can take very different amounts of staff time.

A shortlist organized by workflow

The table below combines official product positioning with our suggested evaluation tasks. Sources checked September 19, 2026: Zipchat, Gorgias Helpdesk, and Shopify customer service documentation.

If ownership is the problem, test assignment, pending work, and shift changes. If product advice is the problem, test distinctions between similar items and restrictions on where they can be shipped. A generic demonstration will not answer both questions.

Zipchat: evaluate the shopping conversation

Zipchat positions its AI around ecommerce sales and support, including Shopify integration. Official product site (checked September 19, 2026).

Use questions from your catalog: two similar products, a budget constraint, and a delivery exclusion. Check whether the recommendation respects the conditions rather than merely producing a convincing answer. Include a request to speak to a person.

The public Starter plan is $49 per month with 500 replies, and the site advertises a seven-day trial. A reply allowance is not interchangeable with Tidio's Lyro conversation allowance. Zipchat pricing (checked September 19, 2026).

Check card requirements, billing after the trial, and cancellation timing in the signup flow; we have not tested those steps. Also establish how the proposed setup will fit with your current human inbox. Our Zipchat versus Tidio comparison provides more context.

Gorgias: evaluate how the team shares work

Gorgias is a candidate when the problem is organizing ecommerce support across a team. Its helpdesk product is built around managing customer requests. Official Helpdesk page (checked September 19, 2026).

Test a presale question, a delivery inquiry, and a return. Have one person start the conversation and another finish it. Can the next person see what has happened and identify what still needs a decision? That can matter more than the quality of a sample AI answer.

If you also want AI, separate its cost from the helpdesk configuration. Use the required channels and workload to request a suitable quote. The smallest advertised package is not proof that your workflow is covered. Gorgias pricing (checked September 19, 2026).

We do not assume a referral destination leads directly to a free trial. Confirm trial or demo availability, card requirements, billing, and cancellation through the route you choose. If your existing inbox already handles ownership well, identify the operational improvement that would justify moving it.

Shopify Inbox: evaluate whether human chat is enough

Shopify describes Inbox as a free app for customer messages, with replies available from a browser or mobile device and conversation assignment for staff. Shopify customer service guide (checked September 19, 2026).

The current App Store listing also describes an AI shopping agent and the option to run Inbox without it. This is not an argument that Inbox lacks AI. We focus here on evaluating human chat first; store-specific AI availability and detailed conditions remain unverified. Official Inbox listing (checked September 19, 2026).

For a store that can answer manually, it belongs on the shortlist before another AI subscription. Free app pricing does not remove the Shopify subscription or the cost of staff time.

Test whether someone notices and answers a message during normal work. Then test the customer experience outside staffed hours. If simple chat meets the need, a longer feature list is not a reason to buy more software.

Do not assume Tidio's AI and Flows configuration can be transferred unchanged. List what each current automation does and decide whether it will become a human task or needs another implementation. See our Shopify Inbox guide and the official Inbox page.

Compare the operating cost before migrating

Tidio separates billable human conversations, Lyro conversations, and visitors reached by Flows. Those units cannot be copied directly into another vendor's ticket or reply allowance. Tidio pricing (checked September 19, 2026). Review the Tidio budgeting guide before building a comparison quote.

Use an ordinary month and a busy period. Include required channels, features, subscription term, and staff time. Distinguish a monthly equivalent from an annual payment. Entry prices alone can give a misleading order of preference.

For multilingual stores, separate AI response language, admin interface, human vendor support, and billing currency. Lyro lists Japanese support, but we have not tested equal-language performance across these alternatives or established every vendor's Japanese support and yen-billing conditions. Lyro language documentation (checked September 19, 2026).

Before switching, decide what happens to open conversations, reference content, and existing rules. Set the old contract's end date only after assigning ownership of unfinished work. Moving the widget is not the same as completing the migration.

Common questions before choosing

Can you use Tidio's trial as a baseline?

Yes. Its public offer is seven days without a card, followed by Free unless you choose a paid subscription. Other vendors may use different terms. Tidio trial conditions (checked September 19, 2026).

Should you choose the highest-rated alternative?

A rating does not prove suitability for your workflow. This is a use-case comparison, not a review-score ranking. Our Tidio review discusses the available review evidence and its limits.

Which option should you try first?

For AI product guidance, test Zipchat with your own questions. For shared support operations, discuss the required workflow with Gorgias. For human chat, evaluate Shopify Inbox. Keep the original problem visible throughout the trial, and end the old subscription only when the replacement can handle that work.
