Concept illustration of choosing a chat service for an online store

Start with what you want to improve

The right Zipchat alternative depends on what isn't working for your store. You might need a shared inbox for a growing team, a different mix of live chat and AI, or a simpler way to manage storefront messages.

Gorgias, Tidio, and Shopify Inbox are three options to consider. They handle different combinations of work, so a good chat demo alone won't tell you which one fits.

This shortlist uses official information checked September 5, 2026. We haven't compared these tools in a live store or tested a migration. The examples below are suggested ways to evaluate them.

Gorgias: when the team inbox matters too

Gorgias combines an ecommerce helpdesk with an AI Agent for support and shopping conversations. Helpdesk overview · AI Agent documentation

Try a conversation that crosses both areas. For example, a shopper asks about a product, then needs help with an existing order. Can your teammate find the earlier messages, take responsibility, and finish the request?

Ask which channels and AI actions are included in the proposed subscription. Also check who can change AI settings and how staff can investigate a wrong answer. A product name doesn't tell you everything included in your quote.

Tidio: decide what people and AI should each handle

Tidio's Shopify offering includes live support, ticketing, and Lyro AI. Official Shopify integration

Before a trial, decide which questions staff should answer and which ones you want to automate. Then try a product question followed by a request that needs approval.

Look for a clear transition: the customer shouldn't receive overlapping greetings or have to repeat the conversation. Check which product components your subscription includes and what limits apply.

Shopify Inbox: start with your store's chat

Shopify documents an opt-in Inbox agent that can reply automatically. Inbox therefore isn't limited to manual live chat. Shopify Inbox documentation

Check what's available in your store, then try common questions in the languages you support. Include a shopper who asks to speak with someone.

A tool that works well in storefront chat may still need separate evaluation for other support needs. Write those down before treating Inbox as a replacement for a broader helpdesk.

Could you fix the problem without switching?

Recreate the issue that prompted your search. If an outdated returns page caused a wrong answer, changing tools won't fix that information. If staff keep doing the same manual task, record the steps so you can check whether another tool actually removes them.

Compare software costs, setup time, regular reviews, and work left for staff. Use the same expected questions for each quote. Our Zipchat pricing guide explains its reply-based billing; competitors may count usage differently.

Try a small change before a full move

  1. Save your current settings and identify records you need to keep.
  2. Confirm export, import, and data-retention options.
  3. Start with one type of conversation and name someone to watch for missed requests.
  4. Test missing information, wrong assumptions, and requests for a person.
  5. Compare answer quality and staff effort on the same questions.
  6. Decide whether to switch, fix the existing setup, or keep testing.

Keep your existing support route available until the replacement meets your needs. For a broader comparison, see our Shopify chatbot shortlist.
