Illustration of the Loox setup order: activate the script, configure requests, then show review widgets

How to set up Loox on Shopify: seven steps, in this order

Installing Loox is the easy part. Reviews start flowing once you've done seven things, and the order matters, because the review email and discount should be ready before anything is sent.

StepWhat you doNeed it?
1Install Loox and turn on the Loox Core ScriptYes
2Import existing reviewsOnly if you have some
3Set up six things before sending: branding, photo/video discount, email, timing, review form, blocklistYes
4Schedule a Bonus Review Request for orders placed before installOptional, and time-limited
5Add the Star Rating and Reviews widgets to your product pageYes
6Decide whether to use ReferralsOptional (Convert or higher)
7Choose SEO and channel integrations such as Google ShoppingOptional

Steps 1, 3, and 5 give you the core loop: customers get a request, reviews show on your product page, and photo reviews earn a discount. Step 4 expires 90 days after install, so decide on it early. This guide follows Loox's help center, its pricing details on the Shopify App Store, and the Beginner plan help article, all checked October 19, 2026. Sources are listed at the end.

Steps 1 and 2: Turn on the core script, then import any reviews you already have

Without the Loox Core Script switched on in your theme, widgets won't show reviews. Install Loox from the Shopify App Store listing, and the first-time setup prompts you to activate it.

The manual route

If you skipped the prompt or want to double-check, Loox's help center (updated June 7, 2026) gives these steps (core script guide):

  1. In your Shopify themes menu, click Customize to open the theme editor
  2. Open the App embeds menu on the left
  3. Toggle on Loox Core Script

The same article has a one-click link that embeds and activates the script for you. Do it again if you change your live theme.

Import first if you have reviews elsewhere

If you've collected reviews with another review app, or on AliExpress, DSers, or Shineon, bring them in before you start asking for new ones. Otherwise your product pages start empty. Our review import guide covers the sources and steps. A brand-new store with no reviews can skip this.

Step 3: Set up six things before the first email goes out

Get the settings right first, then let requests go out. Loox's Getting Started guide (updated September 27, 2026) lists six settings to handle before sending (Getting Started).

SettingWhat it controls
BrandingMakes emails and widgets match your store
Photo/video discountA reward for reviews with a photo or video
EmailsText and look of the review request email
Email timingWhich event starts the clock, and how many days after
Review formKeep the default or customize it
BlocklistingOrders, customers, or products that should never get a request

Timing: pick a trigger and a number of days

Loox can send the request after purchase, after fulfillment, or after delivery, from 1 to 70 days later. The default is 14 days after fulfillment. After Delivery requires Shopify's delivery tracking or the Loox and AfterShip integration. If you set different timing for domestic and international orders, only After Purchase and After Fulfillment are available. (email timing guide, updated October 5, 2026)

Each order gets one request that covers all of its products. If items ship on different days, each fulfillment date triggers its own email. For how to choose the number of days, see our review request emails guide.

Reminders: a second and third nudge

On the same Emails & Scheduling screen under Collect reviews, you can set reminders for customers who haven't left a review. Loox's help article (updated October 5, 2026) says each reminder can be set from 1 to 30 days. By default, the first goes out 1 day after the request and the second 7 days after the first. You can choose two reminders, one, or none. (reminders guide)

There's also a separate photo reminder for people who left a text-only review. It goes out 1 to 30 days after submission, 3 days by default, and Loox's help says these emails are free. (photo reminders guide, updated October 5, 2026)

The photo and video discount: same reward for any honest review

Under Collect Reviews, open Discounts, turn on the photo/video discount, and save. Choose a percentage (such as 15%) or a fixed amount, with the same discount for photos and videos or different ones. You can use one shared Shopify code or let Loox generate a unique code per review, and you can limit it to one collection. Updated August 10, 2026. (discount guide)

The discount goes to customers who submit a photo or video review, so set it up as a reward for any honest review, not for good ratings only. Our guide to getting more reviews covers the rules on incentives.

Blocklist: skip subscriptions and add-on products

Decide now who shouldn't get a request, such as shipping-protection add-ons or recurring subscription orders. Loox's help center describes three ways (blocklist guide):

  • By order tag: add Shopify order tags under Settings > General > Email settings > "Exclude orders from Loox emails", then tag the orders
  • Recurring orders: tag them with something like "recurring_order", "subscription_order", or "NOREVIEW". If you use a custom tag, add it to the same exclusion list
  • Products or customers: add the tag "NOREVIEW" to the product or customer record in Shopify

Blocklisting only affects orders placed after the tag is added. To stop pending requests for a specific product, Loox says to contact support.

Step 4: Use the Bonus Review Request to ask recent customers once

If your store already has customers, a Bonus Review Request is the fastest way to collect first reviews. It covers orders placed up to 90 days before you installed Loox, and the option is available for 90 days after install. (Bonus Review Request guide, updated February 23, 2026)

Open the Bonus emails page, choose a range (90, 60, or 30 days before install, or custom dates), and click Schedule. Sending begins within 48 hours. You can follow progress on the Review Requests tab.

The order here matters. Bonus emails use the same text and design as your regular request email, so finish the email and discount settings from Step 3 first, then schedule. Orders older than 90 days can't be bulk-sent this way. The same help article points to a direct product review link for those customers.

Step 5: Put the Star Rating and Reviews widgets on the product page

Start with two widgets on your product page, the Star Rating and the Reviews list. Loox's Getting Started guide recommends those first.

How to add a widget

For Online Store 2.0 themes, the steps are (widget guide, updated February 17, 2026):

  1. In Loox, open Widgets
  2. Click Add to theme under the widget you want
  3. In the theme editor, drag the app block to where it should appear (Loox suggests under the product title for the Star Rating)
  4. Adjust the look to match your brand, then click Save

If no Loox widget shows up in the theme editor, the help center says to re-integrate Loox with your theme and try again. Our review widgets guide covers placement and what to check when reviews don't appear.

Where to add more later

Once the first two work, the Getting Started guide's other suggestions are AI Review Stories or Snippets above the add-to-cart button, a Trust Badge and Carousel on the home page, and Cart Reviews on the cart page. The Beginner help says you get 14 review widgets, so you don't need to place them all at once.

Steps 6 and 7: Referrals and integrations can wait. Check the basics first

Both are optional, and neither is needed for requests and reviews to work.

  • Referrals let you promote friend referrals after a review or a purchase. According to Loox's Getting Started guide, automatic AI highlights, product groups, and Referrals are Convert-plan features. See our Loox referrals guide.
  • SEO and integrations: the guide lists Shop App, Google Shopping, Meta shops, and TikTok Shop. See our Google Shopping guide for that channel.

A quick check before you call it done

Look at three things before you treat setup as finished:

  1. Schedule: the Review Requests list shows requests on the days you expect, and blocklisted orders aren't in it
  2. Email: the subject, text, button, and discount note read correctly with your store name and product
  3. Display: the Star Rating and Reviews widgets show on a product page. If you change themes later, turn the core script on again in the new one

Our review request emails guide explains how to read request statuses. If all three look right, new orders start getting automatic requests and reviews appear on your product pages.

FAQ

I installed Loox but no reviews show on my product page. What's missing? Two things have to be in place: the Loox Core Script turned on in your theme's App embeds, and a Loox widget added to the page. Those are Steps 1 and 5.

When do review request emails go out? By default, 14 days after fulfillment. You can change it to anywhere from 1 to 70 days after purchase, fulfillment, or delivery. Delivery-based timing needs Shopify's delivery tracking or AfterShip.

Can I send requests to customers who bought before I installed Loox? Yes, for orders from the last 90 days before install, using a Bonus Review Request within 90 days of installing. Older orders can't be bulk-sent.

Is the photo review discount free? The Shopify App Store lists a discount for photo reviews under the free plan. Video reviews are a Convert feature.

Next step: install Loox and work through the steps in order

You can install Loox from the Shopify App Store and start on the free Beginner plan. If you'd rather try Convert, the card on this page links to its 14-day free trial. Turn on the core script, finish the six pre-send settings, then add the widgets to your product page. If you installed in the last 90 days, schedule the Bonus Review Request as soon as your email and discount are ready.
